Maintenance switch -Lockout tagout

Here’s another example of a lockout tagout case: Maintenance workers had to replace damaged switches on the conveyor belt system. Before commencing work, workers follow lock-out, tag-out procedures to ensure their safety and the safety of others who may have access to the system. Workers first identify and label all energy sources that power the conveyor system, including electrical and stored kinetic energy in moving parts. They also test the system to ensure that all energy sources are accurately identified. Next, crews isolated and de-energized the system by turning off the main disconnect switch that supplies power to the system. They also use blocking devices to prevent any movement of the conveyor belt. Crews then apply lock-out tagout equipment to each energy source and system, using padlocks to secure master disconnect switches and tags to indicate that maintenance work is taking place on the system. After ensuring that all lockouts were properly secured, workers began work on replacing the switches. They remove the broken switch, install a new switch and connect the wiring. Once the job was complete, crews removed all lock-tag equipment and rebooted the system. They test the system to make sure it is working properly and there are no loose components. The lockout tagout box ensures workers are protected from unintentional start-up of the conveyor belt system and the system is safe to operate after switch replacement work is complete.
